We would like to draw your attention to an important regulatory update that will come into effect on March 20, 2024. In order to continue efforts to combat traffic congestion and improve the environmental situation in Tbilisi, it was decided that for vehicles of categories M3, N2 and N3 there will be restrictions on driving on public roads within the city.
Restrictions will apply during peak hours, namely from 08:00 to 11:00 and from 17:00 to 20:00 daily. This limitation does not apply:
- In the month of August of the calendar year;
- On holidays established by the legislation of Georgia;
- Saturday and Sunday.
This rule also does not apply to the bypass road around the city of Tbilisi.
We consider it particularly important to notify international carriers carrying out passenger transportation within the territory of the city of Tbilisi about this change. To ensure that carriers can work within established limited hourly periods, minimize potential delays and avoid fines, the City Hall has provided exceptions for carriers carrying out regular (according to a pre-approved schedule) passenger transportation within the city.
To obtain permission to transport passengers during limited hours, carriers need to ensure the transfer of data about their vehicles (buses) that carry out or plan to carry out regular passenger transportation within the territory of the city of Tbilisi.
In particular, we ask foreign carriers to provide information about the registration license plates of the above vehicles to the administration of their partner bus station in Tbilisi. Then the bus station will transfer the bus data to the relevant services of the Tbilisi City Hall and the above restrictions will not apply to them.
This measure is part of a wider initiative to optimize urban transport, ensure smoother and more efficient road traffic and contribute to our efforts to preserve the environment.
