Lithuania Temporarily Closes Its Border with Belarus Following Airspace Security Concerns

LVS has announced that Lithuania has temporarily closed its border with Belarus due to security concerns caused by unauthorized balloon activities originating from Belarus, which have affected Lithuanian airspace and flight safety.
We advise transport operators that, under the CMR Convention, they should inform exporters and importers about the current situation, report delays resulting from the closure, and act according to the exporters’ or importers’ instructions.
In previous similar force majeure cases, experts have recommended that any resulting financial losses be shared equally (50%-50%) between the exporter and the carrier.
For vehicles currently in Poland, the most practical alternative routes appear to be via Latvia or Lithuania–Latvia–Belarus.
