Temporary Closure of the Danube Bridge (Ruse) for Heavy Goods Vehicles on 4 November 2025
Traffic on the Danube Bridge near Ruse will be suspended on November 4 due to the ongoing major repairs. The passage of passenger cars will be restricted from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., and of heavy goods vehicles for up to 24 hours – from 9 a.m. on November 4 to 9 a.m. on November 5. The stage of the currently ongoing construction activities in the 320-meter section in the direction of Romania requires that there be no vehicle traffic at least during the first 12 hours of laying the concrete mixtures to connect the joint between the last two repaired sections, in order to ensure a strong connection between the panels and the strength of the concrete. Compliance with this technological requirement in the construction process requires a complete stoppage of traffic.
Since the start of the repair of the facility on July 10, 2024, which is being carried out in stages, traffic on the facility was stopped for 24 hours once in March this year for the implementation of similar activities in another section of the facility. During the rest of the time, all construction and installation works are carried out daily without stopping vehicles, as the activities are organized and carried out so that vehicles pass in both directions in the lane where the work is not being carried out.
The Road Infrastructure Agency apologizes to drivers for the inconvenience caused, but the repair work on the Danube Bridge is necessary and urgent.
When stopping traffic on the Danube Bridge, drivers of heavy goods vehicles will be able to use parking lots and recreation areas in the districts of Ruse, Veliko Tarnovo, Yambol and Haskovo. A map with waiting areas is in the attached link, as well as a map with alternative traffic routes.
During the traffic restriction on the bridge near Ruse from 9:00 a.m. on November 4 to 9:00 a.m. on November 5, route cards that include the section through the facility will not be able to be used. The restriction applies to all vehicles over 3.5 tons. Drivers who have purchased route cards in advance that include this section should keep in mind that if the card is activated before the start of the closure and its 24-hour validity expires during this period, it will not be able to be used after that.
We remind you that a route card can be purchased up to 7 days before the trip by a registered user on the National Toll Administration website www.bgtoll.bg, as well as from the partner network. Heavy truck drivers should keep in mind that if, for example, the route card was purchased on October 28, 2025 and includes crossing the Danube Bridge near Ruse on November 4, it will not be able to be used during the restriction period. The National Toll Administration appeals to all carriers to carefully plan their routes in advance and use alternative travel options.
